Baye Dame & Awladi Zikr
Baye Dame Bou Yaye is a powerful voice in Senegalese Sufi music. Born in Diameguene, Senegal, Baye Dame is a devoted disciple of Cheikh Ibrahim Niasse and his music is deeply rooted in faith and spirituality.
After forming his group, Awladi Zikr, in 2016, Baye Dame gained national recognition for his religious Zikr ceremonies held across Senegal and for his song 'Beug Lagn La' which gained millions of streams and views across streaming platforms. His music resonates with listeners throughout West Africa, captivating audiences in Mali, Gambia, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria.
In 2023, Baye Dame approached me to join him for a Sufi Zikr ceremony in Bambilor, a suburb on the outskirts of Dakar. This hour-long ceremony with his Awladi Zikr group was fully documented and is available for viewing. This event marked the beginning of our collaboration.
We are currently working on a large-scale project scheduled for release in 2025/26. This initiative will showcase a new form of prayer that brings together people from different religions in a shared ceremonial experience—embodying our belief that music can unite diverse communities in harmony and understanding.
